Explore Oregon’s pre-1900 history and its part in US military activities throughout the 1800s, beginning with the Ourigan river Indigenous trade routes to the making of Oregon Country and then as part of the United States of America, first as a territory and then as a state. Explore Indigenous peoples in the Pacific Northwest, pre- and post-European settlement, the Lewis & Clark Expedition, early settlers and militias, the American Revolution, War of 1812, Indian Wars in the Pacific Northwest, Buffalo Soldiers, the Mexican-American War, and Spanish-American War.
As part of our Oregon & America: 250 Years in the Making (ORAM250) series of programs happening throughout the year, Ourigan to Oregon dives into the Era of Independence (1700s) through the Era of US Continental Expansion (1800s) and the consequential changing landscape of Oregon and the United States.

Explore American engagement around the globe during the 1950s-1980s, including US military activity and the American service experience in SE Asia during the Korean War, Secret War in Loas, and Vietnam War, as well as Cold War operations in Europe and Latin America, and the rise of espionage and covert operations. Dive into the cultural revolution happening at home and its effects on the military and those who served, from desegregation and drafted service in the Armed Forces to pop culture and anti-war efforts.
As part of our Oregon & America: 250 Years in the Making (ORAM250) series of programs happening throughout the year, Cold War/Vietnam Era Day dives into the evolving post-WWII American, and in turn Oregon, experience alongside America’s changing role on the global stage.

On the third (3rd) Wednesday of the month, 2-4pm, visitors are invited to bring materials to create or meditate in a set place within or while walking through the exhibit galleries. These are quiet hours with minimum talking by both visitors and volunteers. Those who do best with low environmental stimulation or engagement are welcome to visit the Museum during these hours as well.
Participants are welcome to bring an easel, folding chair, sit pillow, or blanket to anchor themselves in the gallery. Visitors are also welcome to bring earbuds or headphones to listen to or block out sound. For the safety of the artifacts and respect for each other, only silent, odorless, non-liquid, non-spill craft and meditation tools and supplies are welcome. Please contact the Museum if you are unsure if specific tools or supplies are allowed in the galleries. OMM holds the right to remove materials that may jeopardize the artifacts, galleries, or other participants.
